Orange Phikwe National Marathon Set for 11 August

A hallmark date in the local and international athletics calendar, the Orange Phikwe National Marathon 2018 has been set for the 11th of August 2018.  Participants, supporters and local businesses in the Selebi Phikwe community can now save the date for a bigger and better marathon event, with headline sponsors Orange Botswana working with the local organisers to ensure Selebi Phikwe town truly comes alive with festivity for the occasion.

Said Orange Botswana CEO, Dr. Patrick Benon, “The Orange Phikwe National Marathon is a beloved occasion whose history goes way back. It represents not only our commitment to sports development in Botswana – indeed building off 3 years of dedication to growing the athletics discipline – but also our unwavering dedication to the residents of Selebi Phikwe and her surrounding communities. It is a veritable heart of Botswana in many ways, bearing great heritage and economic potential. The Marathon shines a spotlight on Selebi Phikwe, injecting excitement and bringing support to the many local businesses involved directly and indirectly with the event.”

A record number of participants are expected to register this year, building on the 795 local and International athletes that participated in 2017. The P200,000.00 investment in the Marathon this year marks the 3rd consecutive year of support from Orange Botswana, and the 32nd year since the Marathon was introduced. The socio-economic impact on the Selebi Phikwe area, however, is considerably greater.
