IMF deputy managing director visits Botswana

The Bank of Botswana will host the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Tao Zhang, on July 24 – 26, 2018. The visit of the DMD will be characterised by meetings and consultations with the leadership of the country in order to appreciate key aspects of the economy.

This will include a courtesy call on His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi.  The DMD will also meet with the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Kenneth Matambo, and the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Bogolo Kenewendo, as well as representatives of the private sector.

The visit by the DMD, which extends to other Sub-Saharan African countries, provides an opportunity for the DMD to better assess local developments, policy outlook and impact on domestic economic performance. In addition, there is an opportunity for the DMD to reflect on the effect of global trends on Botswana and evaluate the impact of the work of the IMF on recent policy developments and management of the economy.

Tao Zhang will deliver a Keynote Speech on “Global, Regional and Botswana Connections” to stakeholders at a dinner hosted on his behalf by the Bank of Botswana, on the evening of July 25, 2018 at the Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC).
