Stanbic Bank Botswana continues to remain incredibly passionate about working to sustainably develop the sport of swimming, and cultivating stronger swimming talent in Botswana. For the 5th consecutive year, the Bank sponsored the North VS South Swimming Gala, which brings together leading swimmer’s from Botswana primary schools.
The Bank sponsored this year’s gala to the tune of P25,000.00, which went towards logistics and prize money. This year, the annual gala took place at Kopano Primary School in Selebi Phikwe. A total of 139 participants swam their very best to represent their respective schools, a true example of the fact that sporting talent in Botswana extends into many a discipline.
Said Stanbic Bank Botswana PR Manager, Ms. Ruth Modisane, “We are excited to once again sponsor this key swimming event, which celebrates the wealth of talent in this sporting code. Though we often see news of such high profile sports as football take centre stage, it is important to recognise that other sporting disciplines are also represented in our schools, and that we have immeasurable talent here too.”
The gala brought schools from the northern part of the country and paired them against the southern schools, just as the name if the event suggests. Both regions showed off remarkable talent, with students doing their very best to take home a growing number of accolades.
Sports such as swimming are not as prevalent on our news feeds or even in our daily conversation, but we need to change this to give them a real fighting chance – to ensure our swimming have the utmost support in going further. At Stanbic Bank Botswana, we are incredibly passionate about this, and look forward to helping raise the profile of this sport,” concluded Modisane.
