Aisam wields extensive experience in the financial services industry, with a particular focus in banking. He joined the bank as a Relationship Executive in November 2008 and was promoted to Head of Corporate Banking in 2009. The role evolved into a more strategic and senior one in the Head of Client Coverage for CIB from 2013. He also spent some time working at Standard Bank Mauritius in 2013 on an assignment as Head of Client Coverage and Transactional Product Services.

Stanbic Bank Botswana Chief Executive, Leina Gabaraane said the new CIB head has been an incredible asset to their business, and indeed the Stanbic Bank Botswana family, for many years now. “We are confident he has the requisite skills, leadership astuteness and appropriate relationships to continue to transform our already strong CIB franchise in line with our bank wide strategy,” Gabaraane said.

“He has demonstrated to have a firm grasp of the Stanbic Bank Botswana culture, philosophy and is able to connect the domestic client to the broader Standard Bank Group where we operate in 20 countries across the continent. He has a proven track record of being part of deal teams on landmark projects lead arranged by Stanbic Bank Botswana or where we are a syndicate bank in a club deal whilst leading teams of professionals, and this is the very calibre of leadership that we at Stanbic Bank believe should be at the helm for such a critical business unit.”

Before joining Stanbic Bank, Aisam had worked at Absa Corporate and Business Bank in Johannesburg as well as Barclays Africa Head Office also in Johannesburg where he did an array of Regional Roles in the African Business Unit looking after portfolios in Corporate Credit, Country Risk, Sovereign Risk, Specialised Credit, Retail Credit and Operational Risk. He has also spent time living and working on these portfolios in a few countries in the sub region.

His competencies speak to the deliberate investment in leadership development that lies at the heart of Stanbic Bank values. He has a Masterclass in Strategic Client Management from the UCT Graduate School of Business, Master of Science Strategic Management from Derbyshire University (Merit) and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Botswana. He will be undertaking further studies from 2017 with the UCT graduate school of business to qualify with an Executive MBA.

In his role, Aisam will oversee the Bank’s CIB portfolio which offers the full spectrum of products and services relating to: investment banking; global markets; transactional products and services; client coverage as well as Custody & investor services. The Bank’s CIB’s banking expertise is focused on core industry sectors that are most relevant to emerging markets like Power & Infrastructure; Mining & metals; Oil & Gas; Telecommunications & Media; Consumer and Non-Bank Financial Institutions.

“Our focus continues to be on moving our people forward, and this exciting development only strengthens our ability to do so further,” added Gabaraane.
