FNBB Sponsors BOTESSA with P3 million to support local athletes

First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) officially announced its partnership with Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA) on the 12th June 2018 at a media briefing at Avani Hotel. FNBB has sponsored BOTESSA with P3 Million for a period of 3 years to benefit and nurture local athletes at tertiary level.

FNBB is committed to the development of sports in Botswana. Sport plays a vital role in positioning Botswana on the map at global competitions such as The Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. FNBB recently held a breakfast meeting to honour the Botswana athletics team that recently competed at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and awarded them a total of P185 000.

Speaking at the FNBB – BOTESSA event, FNBB CEO Mr. Steven Bogatsu said “We are happy to partner with BOTESSA and believe that our sponsorship demonstrates our commitment to sports development. The sports sector has great and untapped talent that has the potential to be a worthwhile livelihood for athletes, create employment and drive economic diversification. We recognise that the youth can make a difference in the economy through sport.”

Honourable Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment Sport and Culture Development, Mr Dikgang Phillip Makgalemele stated that he was pleased to see an example of public-private cooperation and investment into key areas of the economy by FNB Botswana.

FNBB also recently launched their Youth Value Proposition in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC). The proposition introduced tailored products for the youth in the sports and creative industries. The products are targeted at youth entrepreneurs, upcoming sports professionals and youth sponsored by MYSC.

This year, BOTESSA will be hosting the Confederation of University and Colleges Sports Associations (CUCSA) games. 10 countries will be competing in different sporting codes such as Football, Volleyball, Rugby and Netball. The games will take place in different facilities around Gaborone.  BOTESSA will also host championships, Marathon and Awards in the 2018.
