- Public Offer of 63 872 410 shares at BWP 4.30 per share opens today and closes at 16h30 on 27 November 2026, with listing on the Botswana Stock Exchange expected on 7 December 2026
In 1992, a new bank opened its first branch in Broadhurst, Gaborone. More than three decades later, that bank is Stanbic Bank Botswana, one of the country’s largest banks. From today, Batswana can apply to own a part of it and be a part of this growth story.
Stanbic Bank Botswana opens its Initial Public Offer (IPO) at 09h00 today, inviting individuals, businesses and institutions to apply for shares ahead of the Bank’s planned listing on the Main Board of the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE). It is the first time the Bank’s shares have been offered to the public. The Public Offer closes at 16h30 on 27 November 2026.
For more than three decades, Stanbic Bank has been where Batswana are paid, save, finance their homes and build their businesses. The IPO, launched under the theme Grow Together, changes the nature of that relationship. Those who have helped the Bank grow as clients and partners now have the opportunity to share in its future as shareholders.
“Botswana is our home, and we drive her growth. Through this listing, we are extending that purpose by inviting Batswana to participate more directly in the future we are building together. This listing is an opportunity to grow the Bank’s relationship with Botswana through broader ownership, greater transparency and a shared interest in sustainable growth,” said Board Chairman, Dr Tebogo TK Matome. “The Offer has been designed to be accessible to first-time investors. The minimum application is 250 shares, or BWP 1 075 at the Offer Price.”
The Offer comprises 319 362 050 existing ordinary shares, representing 20% of the Bank’s issued shares, offered for sale by Stanbic Africa Holdings Limited, part of Standard Bank Group. Of these, 255 489 640 shares are offered through a Private Placement to selected institutional investors and 63 872 410 shares through a Public Offer to individuals and legal entities. Standard Bank Group, through Stanbic Africa Holdings Limited, will remain the Bank’s majority shareholder, holding 80% after the Offer.
What Batswana are being invited to own is an established franchise. Stanbic Bank Botswana serves individuals, businesses, institutions and government through 14 branches, 81 ATMs and more than 640 employees, and is backed by Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest banking group by assets, with a presence in 21 African countries. The Offer is a sale of existing shares. Stanbic Bank Botswana is not raising new capital, and the proceeds go to the Selling Shareholder. The listing is designed to broaden local ownership, support citizen economic empowerment and deepen capital markets participation.
Said Stanbic Bank Botswana Chief Executive, Chose Modise, “Batswana have trusted us with their savings, their businesses and their ambitions. Today we are opening the door for them to own a part of the Bank itself. This is bigger than a single transaction; it is about deepening local participation in our capital markets and building Botswana’s future side by side.”
The Bank enters this new chapter with a clear plan: Kgolo, its strategy for 2026 to 2028, focused on transforming the client experience, executing with excellence and creating sustainable growth and value. “This is about growing together, about accessibility and about inclusion. Botswana is our home; we drive her growth. This landmark opportunity is meaningful expression and reality of this purpose,” Modise concluded.
